Capability index — the formula (audit it)

Capability is the average of the four scored axes (cooling capacity, acoustics, clearance/fit, features); value = capability² ÷ price.

No single cooler wins every axis. The 420mm Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro tops raw cooling but is loud at full tilt and needs a big case; the Noctua NH-D15 G2 and DeepCool Assassin IV are near-silent air towers that rival 360 AIOs but stand 164-168mm tall and can block RAM; the screen-AIOs (NZXT Kraken Elite, ASUS Ryujin, Corsair Titan) win features but cost 2-4x a Thermalright that cools just as well. For most builds a $45-130 air tower or value 360 AIO is plenty - the flagship tier buys headroom, silence-under-load or a screen, rarely all three.

Honesty. Accuracy is priority #1. IMPORTANT: CPU coolers have NO clean cross-brand MEASURED benchmark - reviewers (GamersNexus, Tom's Hardware, TechPowerUp) each test on different CPUs, ambient temperatures, cases and fan curves, so their degree-C and watt figures are not comparable across reviews. The Cooling axis is therefore a CAPABILITY PROXY: a 0-100 class index (radiator size for AIOs, tower/heatpipe class for air) calibrated against the CONSENSUS of those noise-normalized roundups, not a single measured number. The Acoustics axis uses each vendor's RATED max fan noise (dBA), which is also measured on differing fan curves - an air cooler's one slow fan rates lower dBA than a 360 AIO's three fans at full RPM, so cross-type noise comparison is directional, not exact. measuredBy is deliberately OMITTED for this reason. Prices are mid-2026 MSRP / street where resolved and are volatile (the 2026 RAM/component price climate moves coolers too). Screens and RGB are cosmetic and capped low - they do not cool. Nothing is fabricated; unknowns stay blank.
